In the summer of 2026, Community Voices made its debut in a moment that none of the participants will ever forget. 34 children from Avon, Farmington, and surrounding communities came together to perform at the Avon & Farmington 250th Anniversary Celebration — a once-in-a-generation community milestone marking America’s founding.

For the occasion, program director Michael Lamb wrote an original song — “We Stand” — a celebration of two towns, a shared river, and 250 years of history. After just two rehearsals, 34 young voices performed the song live at the Thompson Brook Recreation Area in Avon, Connecticut, in front of their families, their neighbors, and local officials marking one of the most significant community anniversaries in the region’s history.

The response from families was immediate. Parents reached out asking when the next program would be. Kids didn’t want it to end. What began as a single community event revealed something deeper — a genuine hunger in this community for exactly this kind of experience.

“We Stand” was written to celebrate the spirit of Avon and Farmington standing side by side — and the voices of the children who will carry that spirit forward.

— Michael Lamb, Director · Community Voices Youth Choir

Community Voices is now becoming a permanent recurring program — with a fall session starting late September and a spring session starting late March — each with one concert performance at the end. A growing community of young performers building their confidence one rehearsal at a time.

More than a choir.
A community experience.

Community Voices is a weekly performance choir for children ages 7–12. Each session runs 9 weeks with 75-minute weekly rehearsals and culminates in a live concert — a Holiday Concert at the end of the fall session and a Spring Concert in the spring session — each session registers separately in May or June.

Every child is welcome. No audition required — just a love for singing, making music, and an interest in performing. Michael’s approach is always the same: meet every student exactly where they are, build their confidence, and give them something to be proud of by the time they step on stage.

In June 2026, 34 children from Avon and Farmington came together to learn and perform an original song, “We Stand,” for the Avon & Farmington 250th Anniversary Celebration. In just two rehearsals, strangers became an ensemble. Here is what their families had to say.
